Peavey small amp appreciation thread

I just picked up an Ibanez Mikro bass and a Peavey mini amp that was on sale at a local music store. These are for my kids. I tried out the bass in the store with an amp that I was familiar with, but didn't bother with the Peavey amp...I was just expecting a really terrible little practice amp that would keep the kids away from my stuff.

But when I plugged in--wow. For a little 6 inch speaker, and only a 2 band EQ, that little amp rocks. Great tone that can get loud enough to jam with an acoustic guitar or stereo, but won't shake the house. And very compact. I'm just in awe.

I love my Peavey Minx. Small enough to carry around, and sounds great. However, it is true to the peavey heritage and rediculously heavy for its size.

I have, and use daily, a Peavey Microbass amp that I bought new 20+ years ago. It's a solid little practice amp and plenty loud for learning new songs with and getting prepared for rehersal night. Couldn't live without it.

I bought a Peavey Max for my son to use in his apartment. A really nice practice amp. Great value, very decent tone, and the headphone option makes it quite flexible.

My ex bought a Microbass off CL, along with a cheap Milestone bass. The little amp has it's limits, for sure, but it gets surprising loud before farting out, and cops a pretty good P tone along the way.

And it's easier to move around than my Shuttle/Berg 112.

Just bought a Peavey Microbass today for $35. Probably wouldn't have paid much more for it, but at that price, it was impossible to pass up. Plan on using it mostly with headphones.

I had a Minx from the 80's that I bought in the 90's for $150 and sold it years later for $125. It had great tone!! I used to run it off of a battery pack and an small 150W power inverter for hours around campfires. It made a good seat too. Great little amp... Even greater memories. Thanks for the thread!

* Edit - I cut out the mesh that covered the two triangular ports on the bottom to eliminate the wind noise of the air filtering through the mesh. A worthy modification. An exacto knife and a lighter are all that's needed. Just lightly heat up the mesh ends to seal them after you cut the material away.

I can't say that I have ever used anything
smaller than a 112.

That Brings up my basic 40 with a 112.

It is heavy, but it is an awesome practice amp.

I also had a Minx 110 combo amp for many years that just wouldn't die and sounded great along the way! I finally gave it away to a friend of a friend who was learning to play.
I still miss it sometimes. It was an overachiever!
