I wouldn't think it was wise to argue with a guy from Chicago...after-all he may call out the Blues Brothers and their mates then ya in trouble fella loll Some of my favourite musicians are from Chicago...Jude Cole for starters..heard of him at all @Eilif?

So here's my 84 sunburst T-40 I've had since the late 90's. Its been locked away for several years now until recently I got it out to play with, seems like the G is super close to the outside edge of the neck now. My first thought was to loosen the neck and try and adjust the side to side that way but didn't have any effect. Anyone else run into this issue and found a fix?

Might have to shim the side of the neck pocket a bit. The good news is that the neck tilt feature might give you just a smidge more "wiggle room" to deal with.

Seems it has the be a neck shift. Worst case scenario is you've developed a twist in the neck toward the G string. I'd loosen the strings and try the loosening of the neck bolts again, and really tug hard on the headstock (toward the E string) while someone tightens the neck bolts for you.
Can you take a well lit picture (even a camerea flash pic should work) of your neck pocket on the lower horn side?

It looks like your solution could be as easy as loosening your strings by a turn. Then loosen your neck screws until you can tap your neck to show better alignment of string to fretboard. Tighten screws back up with a good fitting driver, then tighten your strings back up.
My neighbors Strat had the same problem from sitting.

Have not put a new set of strings on yet, still has an old set of flatwounds, gonna change them tomorrow and see what i can get it to do.
You may need to clear the holes in the body. Sometimes grain filler and paint will be in the way or things may just be off a taste. I often drill the holes out 1/16" larger than the mounting screws to get some wiggle room for the neck. One trick is to have the outside string on the side it needs to move to tuned to pitch and the others totally slack. This will help hold the neck in place while the screws are re-tightened.

I want to mod my T-40 and add a 3 band preamp. The plan would be to do this without modding the actual bass in case i want to return it to stock.
Step one would be to design a new pickguard with the new control layout. I'm thinking Master Volume and Pickup Blend both would be push pull to coil tap the pickups. The next knobs would be concentric. One Bass/Treb and one Mids/Frq sweep.
I don't think I could keep the series parallel switch and i would also drop the pickup selector switch since I would have the blend knob. I think that that by deleting those switches It should give me the space needed for the preamp and the battery.
So.... am I crazy?

I bought a new gig bag online for my 5-string, but it turned out to be the guitar version IGBMIKRO. If anyone could use it, PM me and I'll give it to you for actual shipping. New and unused, tag still on it.
I did a little set-up of my T-40 last night to get the strings as close as possible to the fretboard.
Once again I was pleasantly surprised at how easy this is on a T-40.
Of all my basses, the truss-rod on the T-40 is the smoothest and most easy to adjust (given you have the right tools).
When I first got my T-40, I was a little apprehensive to adjust the micro-till system but again, it's so easy to do and it works flawlessly. That in combination with the adjustable saddles makes setting up the T-40 a super simple job. I am so satisfied with the result.
Big thumps up for the people at Peavey, who designed the T-40.
