Peavey T-40 finishes

Hey everyone. Last weekend I went into a pawn shop to pay off and pick up an Ibanez SoundGear SRMS805 I had been paying off since September. While I was waiting my turn I looked up and saw this unusual Peavey T-40. I’d seen the natural finish, black, and a couple of sunburst ones, but I’d NEVER seen one with a translucent finish or figured wood. I asked yo see it and it was in excellent shape and had its original case. As I was finishing up settling with the Ibanez, I looked up to see my girlfriend at another register putting the T-40 on layaway. She walked up and said, “Happy Valentine’s Day.” She’s amazing. I just wanted to see if anyone knew anything about any T series instruments with woods/finishes like this. Thanks for your info!

I’ve seen two on my local classifieds listed for 850/875. Both were gone within a few days.
Do you know for a fact if the buyers paid full whack for them ?

Asking prices are not final figures.

I own a lot of Peavey basses , down from 60 odd to around 50. When you have that many you can bet your backside keeping an eye on actual sold prices is important. Sure Peavey used prices have risen but so has the price of everything.

Run a poll on a T-40 owners group last year regarding recent purchase prices , vast majority were in the $400 to $600 bracket. Only 2 fellas paid big money . 1 felt the price justified as it'd been owned by a deceased player he admired.
The other fella collects sales rep's 0000 serial number T-40s/T-60s.

No one knows what they actually paid for them. Experience says that most people don’t sell at low ball offers in just a few days.
Plenty sold that were listed at $1000 and up on Reverb in the past 12 months.

Two years ago, I made an offer for a natural t40 in very good condition. $550. The seller was asking $850. It was a nogo and it hung around on craigslist for about 6 months. It was later relisted for $1100. The seller was nice enough to let me know that he did end out getting the original $850 he was asking. I'm sure someone thought they got a great deal.

Buying and selling musical instruments typically are a patient persons game.

OP congrats on the great buy, great girl, and believe or not... the case that still has the liner and at least one of the support rods.

Yes, I missed two, one for $750 and one for $800 because the kid who cuts our lawn told me to wait, I'd be able to buy one for $500.
That was two years ago and I still haven't found one for $500.
Why, because no one sells a good one for so little.
