Are you being serious? $1,000 for a T-40 seems insane to me, even if it is rare or an oddball... I would swear this guy had to be a TBer because nowhere else on the planet sees the value in old Peaveys.
T-40 values are going up, good condition run of the mill instruments are selling for around $600,
Yep it drives me crazy because I had the chance to get a T-40 from a pawnshop about 10 years ago for $350, I even considered that a little steep at the time for a what I thought to be a work horse bass. I'd still like to pick one up someday but not for the current prices. It would have seemed odd to me too, except that recently I checked the "sold" listings in Craigslist. T-40's in good condition are selling for $450-600. I think folks outside of TB have discovered T-40's. $1000 is alot, but as this is a rare sample example, double the cost doesn't seem totally out of line. Or at least it wouldn't be if the neck, bridge and strings were aligned.
Still weirds me out a bit though. My T-45 is in good shape and my T-40 is in even better condition and they cost me less than $300 each.
That is just beautiful no words could describe that T-40There were 10 "samples" made with the all zero S/N for salesmen to travel around with.

The pinstripe around the truss rod cover looks correct, only very early T40's had that.
That is really lovely. I love how the wood has great figuring but isn't a coffee table. Looks just about perfect to me.There were 10 "samples" made with the all zero S/N for salesmen to travel around with.

Don't loose heart, there are still deals to be had, a couple months ago I picked up a T-45 for less than 0. I'm glad I got mine when I did (got my T-40 in 2002). I absolutely love my T-series instruments, but if the going rate was $600 when I first discovered them, I might not have bothered. I can't think of anything that comes close to a T40 at 2-300 bucks. At 600 there's much stiffer competition.Yep it drives me crazy because I had the chance to get a T-40 from a pawnshop about 10 years ago for $350, I even considered that a little steep at the time for a what I thought to be a work horse bass. Adjust the strings or neck! The G is not even on the fretboard. Why is this always missed??
What's different about the one being discussed here and this one that sold for $158?
