Post pics again...I never get tired of T-40s! I still miss mine at times...
Why not? They're the best source. Be patient, there were something like 250k of them made, so a great one from a reputable seller will pop up sooner or later.

The original plastic actually ate into the original pickguard. It must have been stored for a long time.

I prefer to think of her as a Even Grain Jane. But either way that pickguard is gorgeous - a fantastic design decision and way

I don't really see the problem with CL...that's where I got mine. You still get to try it before you buy, so it's as good as any shop in that respect.
Plus, the $ for the bass stayed "in the family" so to speak...as the seller wound up being another TBer.

That's a nice one!! I've been keeping my eye out for another one. I'd love to find a black or red one. A fretless would be cool too. I really don't play fretless but I think having a fretless T-40 would be a good start

Yeah, I love the black. I also love the look of yours with the pearloid.
The two coolest I've seen are transparent green (the Major Metal model, apparently), and transparent red. Maybe someday if I'm feeling really daring I'll do a re-finish. Alternately, a red-tort pickguard might put it over the top as well, albeit in a different direction.
You might try Gbase or musicgoround. I scored an insane deal on a Roland Bass Cube 30 off of Gbase a few months back [half price, brand new condition ]. It's really just an online listing for various music stores, but it can come in handy.

You need to be a supporting member. Keep an eye out in the for sale section too. They show up on occaision.
Have you ever played one before? I know a lot of people seem to love them, but a lot of people don't. They're clearly not for everyone.
If you've ever played one and are set on getting one, the suggestions mentioned already are a great start.
