Peavey T-MAX head

$100 + tax for everything in the rack? You bet I did. Sounds big and full. Tube channel sounds especially good with Peavey USA Cirrus 5, while passive G&L JB5 sounds stronger and richer through the solid state channel. Would love to find a headless 115 T-Max cabinet.

Congrats on a great score! I didn't know they made a a 15" version of the combo cab until your post, lol
One of the best sounding bass amps I have ever played though.

A couple more notes. These came in two slightly different power ratings, 500w @ 2 ohms for the earlier and 550w for the later builds. They were nice and put the output rating on the back of the case near the power cord.
If it has the original 12AX7 an EHX or JJ might make the tube pre sound even better and might give more life to your G+L. These came with a generic Chinese tube because of when they were made. I liked it with the original but A/B'd mine with a base model EHX and a JJ I had kicking around and the ehx won between the three, more noticeable with passives. Definitely worth doing some tube rolling with these.

That all is great information, and thanks. Mine is the earlier 500 watt version, and I definitely will look into changing the tube. Very, very pleased with this amp. A great complementary sound and feel to the GK 800RB that is currently my main ride.

hi, i've used one of these for 4plus years on the road. mine started making a clicky sound about a year ago when using the ss pre amp (which i don't use live) but it made me start looking for a replacement. i bought 2 this week so i now have 3. 2x500w and 1 550w, all 240v. this should last me until artharitus gets my knuckles!! love'em!

Keeping this alive and well in 2024!

My T-MAX 500 fan sounds not only loud but like there are marbles in it. I’m considering replacing it, but going to try and clean it first.

Any success stories out there? Any photos of disassembly/cleaning or any active links to replacement fans with correct specs would be greatly appreciated.
