Peavey TNT 115 (Newer Version)

Yea,,,,, those new TNT,s weigh a ton,,,, I was going to buy one untill I tried lifting it up,,,,,, and Peavey calls them light weight combos,,,,, I have no idea what the folks over at Peavey are smoking cuz their new TKO and TNT combos are some of the heaviest combos on the planet.

Cheers

I have an ancient one i keep at a friends house that i have played with for decades. Its the house bass amp for who ever happens to be there driving the train. The thing just keeps on going and it actually sounds good for a decades old amp, thats been through hell & back!

I got one back in December. The weight isn't an issue for me, it taps the scale around 75lbs. I don't trust a bass amp that i can left with my pinky.
The shape is a little awkward but i got over that real quick due to the sound and performance of the beast. On its own, just the 15" driver, it is impressive. With the right tweaking of the eq you can get any sound you want. Remember on its own it is 300w, not the 600w peavey is advertising it as. Add an Extension cab and you pushing 450w. This is what is going to give you the extra volume. I have a 410 cab with it and it is a BEAST!!
The number one point for me is it is a peavey amp. These things are damn near indestructible. They are built like a tank, weighs almost as much as a tank, and will last forever. For the price this amp is the best on the market IMHO.

Our guitar player has one in his practice room I've been using for the last couple of years. Always worked fine. Recently I started using the power amp direct input with my Line 6 PdX3 live to be able to vary my sound quickly. Pumps out enough volume for smaller rooms, for larger rooms or outdoor parties I use the DI for PA support.

Like others have said, Peavey products are built like tanks and extremely road worthy. Very good bang for the buck IMHO.

Ok,,, a follow up to my statements,,,, I wander into GC yesterday to check out the July 4th sales stuff,,,, the new Peavey TNT is marked down to $400.00 so I said what the hell,,, I will give it a listen,,, after my little listen I purchased it.

Yea,,, the thing weighs a ton, and the knobs are a bitch to adjust when its tilted back and its akward to carry and it has a few other things I dont like about it,,,, but WOW,, the sound and the tone out of this beast are off the hook.

This thing is LOUD,,, I cant think of any gig I do that this TNT could not handle with no PA support,,,, I think I could run this combo by itself in a large venue with no PA and still have headroom to spare. (I play in some rather loud rock bands, with heavey handed drummer's)

Even at a loud volume when I was testing it, it handled the low B with no effort at all,,,, and all the different tones and sounds I could dial in on the TNT were impressive to say the very least.

The things I dont like about the TNT are far outweighed (pun intended) by the monster sound this thing puts out !!!!

I also like 10's over 15's so I am even more suprised that I LOVE the tone and sound of the TNT so much.

I have a bunch of GK gear and used to use only Markbass and Ampeg but I got say this TNT has me totaly flabber-gasted and in shock.

The weight of this amp kept from even considering it or even testing it out,,,, but the volume and available tone's that can be dialed in made the weight of the TNT a non-issue,,,, and for $400.00 new in the box Im also shocked.

Tonight I will be playing a med size room with limited PA support,, I will post back after the show.

Cheers

I'd like to hear how your show goes...I also have a Tour TNT (one of the first ones ever to ship), and at one time I felt the same way about it, and your post reminded me of why it was so awesome.

However, mine has become considerably less awesome, and for a while I thought it was due to changing tastes and preferences, but your post made me think that I have to return to the theory that there's something wrong with mine.

I've heard about a power supply modification for the first run of these, but when I took it to the local tech they took the cheap route and just fixed a loose wire on the tweeter switch or something. Anyway, I didn't mean to hijack your thread. Good luck with the amp and the gig!

As promised a report on the TNT at the gig last night.

The TNT sounded GREAT and performed perfectly with amazing tone and punch.
I used it in a med size venue with limited PA support and it had lots of headroom.

OK,,, now for the bad,,, yea, in a real world live gig the knobs are a bitch to see with standard stage lighting,, holding my bass and a flashlight at the same time while tring to adjust the amp settings for the room is a total pain in the ass.

If the contol panel was located on the front of the TNT that would be perfect, huge mistake on Peavey's part to put the control panel on the top back of the combo,,, ya dont realize what a screw up it was for Peavey to have done this until your using the TNT on a gig.

If this amp was for a rehearsal room and not beng moved alot then no big deal with the settings, but such is not my situation.

Another deal breaker,,, the TNT wont fit in my truck bed,, I have a new Toyota Tacoma with a hard shell tonneu cover,,,, the only other choice is hauling the TNT in the truck cab,,, my Toyota is an extra cab but even fitting it behind the front seats is a pain and more than a few times Im giving rides to bandmate's,,, the amp and passenger's wont fit in the truck cab at the same time and my truck bed cover cant be closed with the TNT in the back.

Anyhow,, bottom line,, its a KILLER combo with amazing tone but the TNT is not user friendly at all so its going back to the store.
