Peavey Tour 700 Bass Amp Head

Thoughts? I play in a Punk/Sludge/Stoner Heavy band and with 3 other guitars. I need some volume and punch. Currently I have (1) Ampeg B410HE 4x10 cab & (1) Ampeg B115E 1x15 cab. Would the Peavey Tour 700 Bass Amp Head be a good fit for me? What other heads would be suitable?

I would look into the Carvin BX1500. It has dual power amps and a cross over, so you can properly balance the mismatched cabs.

Gobs of power and yes, the ability to get volume output of each cab to match. Otherwise your 410 will be limited in output to what the single 15 can handle. If you don't do that, your 410 will be so much louder, you'll never hear the 115 straining to keep up and more than likely blow the 15 at high volume.

Or...sell your 115 and get another 410 and then any amphead with enough power for your needs.

If you do want the Tour 700, go ahead. I had the Tour 450. Nice head and the 700 has more power. But at least put the 115 on top so you can hear it farting out easier.

3 Guitars are a lot to get over. Have you thought about a 2-15 to match with the 4-10"? or maybe scrapping both cabs and grabbing up an 8-10"? I would say you need surface area (a lot of freaking cabs) to get over 3, at the least, halfstacks.

I am currently using 4-15's for my project and am thinking of adding another 2-15". Speakers are your friend!

But yes your cabs are the weak link. 115 will get burried by your 410, either sell it or trade it for another 410 or sell both of your cabs and get a 215 or 810. either solution should be just fine with the Peavey 700.

For under $400 bucks you can have an amp that will do 2 omhs and up to 1100 watts. How do you feel about running pre/power?

My setup was $360 for the above mentioned power and I'll never go back to a regular amp...unless it's free/stupid cheap.

Old Peavey 215s cost peanuts used, likewise many good amps like the Firebass/Max700 can be had for not too much.

Never used a Tour 700 myself.

(The pre/power setup is another option, but not for everyone and while it can be cheap, it can also get very expensive if you start getting into your pre amps! )

You can find a lot of good used amps in that price range. The Carvin already mentioned is a good choice.

any of these amps would do the trick and also be a good fit once you decide to upgrade your cab(s).

You could also look at the Crown XLS drivecore series. They can be ran with a VT pedal too, if on the cheap. You could also look for used Peavey preamps. I got an Alpha Bass Tube preamp for $100 used, locally. I also got my Crown through Northern Lights and Sound. They run a 15% off coupon every so often and thats the time to strike. Of course, finding one used would also save a buck or two. That should leave plenty of room to have a few bucks left over from your $600 and you still have cabs you could put down as a trade. Or sell the combo and get another 4-10". There are really a lot of possibilities.

Knowing where you are will help us determine gear availibility. Assuming you are in the U.S., there are a ton of local outlets for used gear including TB.

There's a Peavey Tour 450 and Headliner 410 provided for me at the band's rehearsal space. I also used it for one gig just to see how it was. It was an outdoor gig, no PA for the bass. It did just fine and I wasn't even pushing it at all. The Tour 750 is even more powerful and should put out enough volume for you.

I own a Tour 600.The DDT led remains on (green) at all times. Sounds fine has never failed me and its gigged every week. Should I be concerned??

I had a very similar set up and, while I liked the Tour 700 with the 410HE alone, adding the 115 I had was pointless due to imbalance issues already referenced . If you already have the Tour 700 I'd swap out the 115 for another 410HE. If you don't have the Tour 700, and are open to other options, there are likely better choices like the ones already referenced in replies.

Go Peavey Tour 700. Your instincts are good. Peavey is rock solid and you don't see complaints of blown Peavey amps here every day. There's a reason. They're tanks. And very popular right now in your genre of music. You won't be unhappy, the 700 is a good choice.

And use your cabinets. Nothing's going to blow up. You'll sound awesome. Good luck!
