I WANT TO REPLACE MY CURRENT HEAD RIG( AN ASHLEY PREAMP WITH A 600WATT POWER AMP) FOR A LIGHTER OPTION. I AM INTERESTED IN EITHER THE PEAVEY TOUR 700 OR THE PF 500 BY AMPEG. I KNOW THAT THEY ARE COMPLETELY DIFFERENT TYPES OF AMPLIFIERS BUT I AM INTERESTED TO HEAR WHAT YOU GUYS THINK. I NEED IT TO GIVE ME "LOUD" FOR MY ROCK BAND AND "MEDIUM" FOR A WEDDING BAND. ANY COMMENTS OR OTHER IDEAS WELCOME. MY CAB IS AN AMPEG HLF4X10. THANKS

PEAVEY TOUR 700 Vs AMPEG PF500

I love the PF amps and have a PF350. That said, Peavey amps are very good, too. Not my thing but I got respect. Either one will amplify your bass with a quality signal, but I prefer the PF500. Having said that, if at all possible, go try both for yourself and make up your own mind...that's always the best thing.
If you have the oppurtunity to try both, I suggest that you do so... I have never played either of those two amps but have heard good stuff about both..... Both are Reputable companys.....
If you are set on using that cab I would go and try both heads. The only way you can tell if they will give you the sound that you are looking for is to try them out. Nether is a bad choice, it just really depends on the tone that you are looking for.
Although I have never used either of the amps you mention, I'm getting excellent results with the PF350 and an SVT410 HE. The PF500 should be very similar to the PF350 with more features and power. I can't speak to the cabinet other than to repeat comments I've read on TB. I also have experience using Peavey amps, although not the Tour 700. IME, Peavey builds a very reliable amp with good tone. It's just a different animal from Ampeg.
