Peavey Tour VB-2 All Tube head. need comments!

I've had mine almost since they were first released. It's been a great amp -- wonderful sounding and no internal fuse issues! I haven't used it as much in the last few months because I've been distracted by my VB-3 (also a great amp, and not at all a more powerful version of the VB-2).

My VB-2 plays "second fiddle" to my Peavey Classic 400.
But, until I retubed the Classic 400, there wasn't that much difference in sound.
(It's tough to compare to an octet of KT-88s...)

The VB-2 is a phenomenal amp--it sounds great, has good features, good build quality, etc.

When you factor in the PRICE? It's untouchable.

I used to have a Mesa/Boogie Bass 400+ that I loved, but it farted out and lost it's huevos at gig volume.

The VB-2 gets MEAN when you crank it and is totally usable for live rock + roll with an enthusiastic drummer.

I've owned mine for 2 1/2 years. I did have to send it back twice for the fuse issue. The first time was when I initially bought it (one of the $399 GC blowout heads) and the second time was last summer. Since then I've used it on every gig and I don't see it failing anytime soon. I installed a NOS Telefunken ECC83 in the V1 slot and it sounds luscious. The stock JJ sounds great, too. It gets along great with every cab I've mated it to. I'm seriously considering getting another one and I'm itching to take a VB810 cab for a spin. I'm pretty set with this head and see myself owning it for a long time.

You should try the VB810. I saw Charlie Torres playing one with Rick Derringer and he sounded awesome and told the crowd it was the best sounding rig he ever played.

I've had mine since January (courtesy of a fellow TBer) and I've play every gig with it and it's never let me down. I play mine through an Ampeg 810 and I get so many compliments on my sound for other bands that I'm floored.

I stay on the clean channel with the gain turned to about 7, low-7/mid-10 (shift-400)/high-5, and both the resonance & presence at 0. Sounds mean, dirty and it cuts right through the mix (with two guitars playing metal).

I really enjoyed mine, but went the GB Shuttle 9.0 route (my back is loving me again :D ) and sold the VB2 to a TB'r to cover costs.

Between the AD200B, SVT-CL, SVT-VR, Mesa 400+, and the VB2, I really give it out to the VB2. For a FRACTION of the cost, you have something that holds the quality and power that could classify this amp a worthy "industry standard" tube amplifier contender. :bassist:
