Peavey Tube Head CHEAP in La Mesa

Mine came in wednesday from MD and was DOA. The plug was left connected to the amp it must have shifted in transit and it broke through the chassis. I plugged it in anyway. nothing-no lights-no music-just nothing. I checked the external fuse-OK. :-(

MotorTed...bummer dude. That sounds like an idiot problem rather than a manufacturing problem.

Have you contact GC about it (I'm assuming you got yours from GC)?

On the other side...I'm going to pick up my second VB-2 from GC today and I'll report back later on tonight about whether it works or not.

Alright bassers...

I picked up my VB-2 and it is absolutely awesome (15 minutes with it in my Ampeg 810e)! It is exactly what I was wanting...something with more usability than my Ampeg SVT but still with the tube thickness. I am loving the tone! Again...I had about 15 minutes with it and am still in the honeymoon phase but my main concern is that I don't want it to shut down on me. I'm going to play play play with it over the next 10 days and then it is gig time so I hope it is still running by then.

I called GC. They said I could bring it to the closest GC for return. The ship weight was listed as 65 lbs. I thought it would be lighter. I had a chance to play a VB-2 in Long Island and I was saving up for one. I really liked the sound of the amp and I only spent a limited time with it. The quest continues.

VB-2 is still cranking. I have been playing the mess out of it (as best I can...my wife is sleeping because she's sick) for the past 2 hours. Tone for days...I like it better than my old SVT. Seriously. I may sound crazy but it really just sits well with my Fender Hot Rod Jazz.

Hello All,

So after playing this thing in my house and shakin' the hell out of the walls, (but not truly pushing it) I brought it off to the studio for rehearsal and gigged it last night.

Famous Shamus is a loud hard rock cover band with two guitarists and a controlled drummer who can be loud at times.
I guess what I'm saying is, we can fill a room with sound (noise?) if need be:D.

The VB-2 performed well over a four hour gig. It had all the power you could want out of my 2X10, 1X15 setup. What really surprised me was the adjustibility in tone. Without a lot of bells and whistles, the amp was a breeze to dial in a sound and correct for the room. Clear, punchy, with just the right amount of grit in tone.

I started out following a setting posted somewhere here on TB, with the Master Volume cranked and using the Clean Gain to control overall volume. That was OK, but the amp really jumped to life with the Clean Gain left set on 4 and the Master scaled back to 6. Resonance adjustibilty is outstanding for taking the boominess out of a usually hard to EQ room. Left the Bass at 5, mids Back at 3-4, Mid Shift at 400, and Highs at 5. I play active preamp basses, and the clarity was really there, but without the harshness.

I am still "learning" the amp, and it is my first tube amp, so this is all a work in progress. There is tremendous potential here and I'm looking forward to the rest of my gigs this month to see just how adjustible this amp can be. So far, this is the best 399.00 I've spent. Thanks to the OP!

I've had mine for a week now. It's done two rehursals and last night it did a country gig here in Chicago. I put it through my Ampeg Portabass 210, and it sounded great. It was kind of a sight though. I have two little pieces of wood to raise the amp over the handle on top of the 210 and the amp sticks out about 6 inches on each side!

I let the bass player in the band after me play through it, and it sounded awesome. Clear, punchy, and smooth. At my request, he wasn't pushing it too hard but he seemed to enjoy the amp as much as I.

As I mentioned, before, I do believe that my YBA200 had a sweeter and richer tone but this thing sounds punchier in the mix, and seems to have considerably more clean headroom stock than the YBA200 had with the low gain preamp tube swap. I'd like to keep both, but it's not an option, so I just sold the YBA200.

In my case I sent it to Peavey for repair last Tuesday. I gave the service dept a call yesterday to see if there was any progress and was told I'd most likely be waiting another three weeks or so more before I get it back. I understand folks go slow down in Dixie but apparently the Peavey repair staff like to snort horse tranquilizers as well. This head better be worth all the aggravation.

GC return/exchange or Peavey repair. Of course...you have up to 30 days to return it to GC because if you don't then your only choice would be Peavey repair.

I've had mine going now for over a week and I am super happy with it! I play my first set of gigs out this weekend (Sat, Sun, Mon) and I will put the head through some punishment (as much punishment as Christian Rock Worship can do).

I've been trying like crazy to get one of these for $399, and still no luck (in the Boston area). I've call the local GC's, and they've looked up all the other GC's, but they can't get one shipped to the local GC or to me personally.

I even called GC.com and said that I found stores that had them for $399 (they're supposed to match any storefront prices), but that didn't even work.

I guess I'll keep trying!

i went to my local GC since they have one and was going to purchase it. it was a floor model and well guess what?!?!? it didn't even work. everything lit up but there was no noise...nothing...nada...zilch. perhaps it was somebody stupid handling the head that busted it but damn o well. GC employee was an idiot as well but whatever. i guess they are going to try and fix it and call me back when its fixed. no doubt ...it's an awesome price but i mean.....perhaps that's why they were clearing them out anyways. every single one seems to break somehow hahhahaha.

Went to a GC today, ill take back most of the negative things I have said about them.

I picked up a Peavey Tour 410 brand new for $300, sounds amazing with my Buster.
Also the guy that helped was super friendly and helpful.

Don't say that...I've got three gigs over the next week and a half. I hope to not have to carry my power amp and preamp as a backup to my VB-2. It does sound sweet though!

See if they will order you one from another store that works...that what I had my GC do when my first one came in not working at all.
