Pedal-board to amp, what cable?

I apologize for this stupid question, but what is the proper type of cable to use to run from your effects/pedal board into your amp. Speaker cable or Instrument cable? Or does it matter?

Instrument cable, and nothing but instrument cable. Speaker cable is only for speakers.
