pedal chain order.. tech 21 bass driver

So i'm Getting a tech 21 bass driver in the next few days and i wasn't sure where to put it in my chain. I'll be using it with an electro harmonix bass big muff, small clone, and bass balls (yeah i love my ehx pedals)
I'm not really sure where in the chain the bass driver would go... , or if i should put it in the effects loop, mainly because i'll be using the DI on it.
any help would be great thanks guys. ;)

what are you using the bass driver for?

mine serves as my preamp, going into a regular power amp to serve as my bass rig. in that capacity, it's last in line, so its 1/4" goes to the amp and its XLR goes to the PA.

in any case, the big muff should receive a passive signal, so put it first.

Yep, if you want all your effects in the DI signal is has to go last. However, if you set the Bass Driver to get some overdrive it's going to be effected by any pedals before it. I found that I didn't like overdrive or boost pedals before my VT Bass because it produced more overdrive out of the VT Bass, even with a clean boost (which, yes, I obviously understood would happen). I prefered to use the VT Bass as my "base" tone and add boost/overdrive/eq after it to add further shaping to the sound. So, you have a couple things to think about as you set up your signal chain.

it will work fine!
That was my previous setup, it sounded fine and i never noticed any issues or difference in sound from having the BDDI first or last...

I love the BBM in front of a VT or BDDI.....try it out. Just imagine either as the front of an amp and you slam it with the BBM.....works pretty much like a real amp this way. I always put the VT or BDDI last in the chain for this reason....I tend to think of both more as an additional preamp than an actual effect.

If that's what you're going for, it will certainly work. In my case I like to use a clean boost or Xotic BB to give me a boosted, brighter sound for solos and the overdrive would get out of hand with signal boosts before my VT Bass.

I use my BDDI as a kind of splitter. I put it first in the chain with a DI to the board. I then put my chain into my head and use the DI out there for a separate line. That way, no matter what effects I run, I also have a clean pure bass signal too. Keeps things nice and fat.

Of course when I use the BDDI as a pedal for overdrive, both lines are overdriven, but the BDDI sounds so good, it doesn't matter.

Also, do you often run all of your pedals at once? If not, the order doesn't matter too much. I seldom run more than one at a time.

I go bass > compressor > SABDDI > XLR to FOH

I then use a looper with the BDDI in first > a few dirt pedals > amp.

The key here is to have the FOH Engineer mic my amp since that's the only way the other effects are going to make it to FOH. This way my DI'ed signal is a slightly compressed & driven clean tone. Then the amp mic just works in under the DI with whatever flavor of dirt I choose to use. Plus I like the sound of the speaker's paper a little in the mix.

Hope that gives you another set up option.
