Pedal Compressor vs XR18 compressor

I need some real pro help here......

Difference between Pedal compressors and if I take it off my pedal board,
is my XR18 mixer software compressor comparable?

It depends. There's all different quality levels, features, and tones from all the hundreds of pedals and dozens of programs out there. A good pedal is better than bad software/interface, and vice versa.

I'm using a 90's ART Levelar with a sovtech tube and a Line 6 9v dc 2000mah power supply.
I have some GE tubes as well that i haven't tried yet.

It's been working great since the late 90's and it's my DI
I have the EMG DC40 and CS40's in my bass with BQC system. So I have the preamp covered and tone
shaping......
but the Tube Comp Levelar will die one day and I'm looking at the Two notes Le Bass to be my new DI.

I have the ART Pro Ch II as a backup.... But there's something about the late 90's Levelar.

However, the Le Bass will not be a compressor, but I'm thinking that it's tube qualities might compress
just enough....

Thoughts?????

It's such a personal-taste issue. If the effect you want is more about a gentle "improvement" to the tone and feel, then the Le Bass might provide all you need. I haven't tried it. If you also want more control over peaks, then some tube preamps do that better than others; and the ones that handle the peaks more firmly are definitely driven harder, meaning more distortion (not just clipping).

Coming from the ART, I would recommend you check out the Effectrode, Markbass, and Lightning Boy comps. All can give you a similar sound and feel IMO.
