Pedal for fretless sound

Honestly, not much can be done to help give you a fretless sound besides a fretless bass... and almost nothing can give you an upright sound besides an upright - even electric uprights fail to capture the sound well.

But if you`re desperate, a chorus pedal might help you somewhat get a fretless like sound, and for an upright tone I`d put foam under the strings, boost the bass, cut the treble, and pluck up high on the neck (above the fretboard).

or get an even cheaper fretted bass, pull off the frets and filling the groves with wood glue and saw dust.
LOL! I think you can get a fretless cheap enough to avoid having to do all that! Doesn't SX have one?

Caveat....If you're not used to playing fretless, realize that there is a learning curve involved, and unless you have great sense of pitch, you may never master it.

what about nylon strings on a fretted bass? would the frets just shred the nylon off? (ive never purchased nylon strings, so pardon my ignorance.)

the only fretless i ever played was years ago, and my teacher owned it. the thing had nylon strings on it, and sounded really cool... i just sucked at it, so i said thanks but no thanks (same thing with a 5er... played one once, and said to hell with this messed up string spacing and tension. stingray 4 for life!).
