Pedal recommendations?

Everyone needs a ring modulator.

I would look at an OD with a decent amount of grit for your style of music. I like the wayhuge porkloin for this.

A good fuzz pedal could do well for you too. checkout the earthbound audio supercollider. If you want a fuzz/OD combo check out the wounded paw battering ram.

A chorus or phaser may be worth looking at.

Oh perfect! I was in a music shop the other day and spotted one of those Danelectro Fab Chorus pedals.....they we're so inexpensive that I wasn't sure if they were any good at all. I guess I'll give it a try next time. Thanks! Would a chorus pedal and the EHX Bass Big Muff Pi be a good start for an indie/garage rock style of band?

I use the T-Rex Moller, It has a mix knob on it so the bass signal doesn't get lost, Every amp i have gone through with it just sounds like the gain has been cranked, Best OD pedal i have every heard IMO,

Also if you can get your hands on an old HOT TUBES pedal, i also use that, propper, Sonic Youth (as kim uses one) / Nirvana / Thearpy? though i'm in a British "indie" band both pedals work like a treat.

Just lookin for the right reverb pedal at the moment! just a cheap one, anyone has any ideas... message me please :-)

I'm pretty happy with my BOSS ME-50B, esp live, since I dial in a tone or effect for a song, save it in a patch, and just stomp that when the song comes up. When not using a particular patch, I fall back on slot #1, which I just have some compression and eq dailed-in. (That way, I can just slam into almost any amp or DI and get most of my sound.)

But, of course, the fun is in manual mode. It give you a chance to explore several different types of fuzz, delay, phase/flang, autowah, octive, synth, etc. If you find something you like, say, you become fond of phased sound, then you can pick up a specialized stomp that allows further exploration down that path.

I also got the external up/down foot pedals to jump from bay to bay. The only downside is there is, as far as I know, no way to recover what's in a patch after it is saved, and I didn't keep very good notes on a couple of 'em...

I'm currently using a Fender Aerodyne Classic Precision Bass Special. With a Hartke 3500 head and Hartke 4.5 Cab (4x10 setup). As for the style of music....I'd compare it to The Greenhornes mixed with Modest Mouse. If that's a fair comparison lol. This may give you some more insight, I'm a big fan of Tim C from RATM and I love his sound, so pedals that he uses may be cool.

Hrmm... RATM =/= Garage Rock to me... Love the Aerodynes though.

As per your question, the Bass Big Muff Pi is a GREAT pedal for you. I know a lot of people here will start throwing out obscureish pedals that cost possibly hundreds of $$$ (many of them are worth it though), but to simply get an approximation...

I second the danelectro. I would also reccomend the boss bass chorus. I use one and it keeps the low end nicely.

Possibly Reverb. I dig the Digitech Digiverb actually. (if it's good enough for Nick Thieneman it's good enough for me).

A nice tubey OD would be a good fit. If you can swing it, a Tech21 VT Bass is where it's at... but on the cheap you can get a Digitech Bad Monkey for ~$30 and works quite nice on the bass.

Maybe some delay. I LOVE my EHX #1 Echo. It's an analog sounding digital delay that is simple and sounds great. You can also find some deals on Boss delay pedals in the $50 range fairly commonly.

Finally, what i think is an unsung hero in the pedal world, is the EHX Holy Stain. I love this thing. It's a multi with Room Reverb, Hall Reverb, Tremolo and Pitch Shifting as well as dirt settings in Fuzz and OD with Warm, Dark or bright that you can also dial in.

That's pretty much it for garage rock. As you develop more just go listen to pedals on youtube and you can pick and choose what effects you may be able to utilize in your specific band.
