Pedalboard power supply question....

I've occasionally done this, although I prefer to remove the extra cable if I know I won't be using it for a while. I have some velcro ties (i.e. the things that sometimes come with instrument cables) that I use under the board to keep patch cables and power cables tidy, so when I have an "extra" power cable I'll use the ties to make sure it is kept out of the way of the pedals, the floor, etc.

I don't use many effects and on my wee board I often swap out one pre for another--one is 18v and one is 9v. My power supply has 9v and 18v outlets, 2 each, and I only use 3 pedals.
Is there any potential downside with having a power supply cable connected to the power supply but not connected to a pedal? That makes my swap the easiest, having both 9v and an 18v cable already plugged in ready to go, with one dangling in the wind when not in use.
I have one of those Spot 18v to 9v converters and have been using that but it's actually more of a nuisance to mess with that than just have the two power cables hooked up.
EDITED: "power supply", not "patch" cables
Electrical tape to cover the spare power tip if you’re unable to find the tips to cover them. Or perhaps some plastic tubing thst you could cut to length.
One other option I’d you don’t mind parting with $13.00 you can buy a generic power supply on Amazon that comes with 8 tips.

I have some exposed/unused power barrels too. I'm pretty sure they contribute a little noise in the signal chain, but meh.
That's kinda where I was at but I had a weird otherwise inexplicable noise issue at a soundcheck the other night. Bypassed the pedalboard, and it went away. However, I hooked it all back up afterwards as it was and it was OK. Coulda been any number of things (I did not have time for a scientific process of elimination, as I also switched DI's and to different AC power!🤷‍♂️). But, it got me thinking about that cable in my board coming off the ps but not connected to a pedal....who knows?

You definitely don't want the unterminated barrel connectors coming in contact with metal.

I used bridge adapter to to combine two 9V output into one 18V line. Since I have three 18V pedals I used a 1 Spot daisy chain, which has 5 total outlets. So I have two unused barrel plugs with 18V on them. My solution was to find a plastic drinking straw that fits the barrel plugs snugly. I went to several fast food restaurants to find straws of different sized, and one of them worked perfectly.
