Pedulla 4 string back to life

I was given this 1999 pedulla rapture that belonged to my cousin. He died unexpectedly and was a damn good sound man. He was a bit of a reclus . Anyway. The bass plays and sounds amazin . It has really dingy strings and some of the hardware is a bit scuffed up. Just looks like the whole thing was never cleaned/cared for. Also the pots are scratchy and needs a new input jack (also scratchy). Still sounds amazing though. Does anyone know anything about these basses that I should know before getting it worked on. The maker retire . I'm going to use it when I gig now. Just want to do it right

Have you tried cleaning the pots and jack before going about replacing them?

Yeah I'm sad and excited to take on this bass. I know my aunt would appreciate me playing it out. I have not done anything yet. I will not be looking to upgrade or change Unless I need to. I just want to clean it up and play it but I didn't know if there were any weird extra things w these instruments. I have never owned something this unique Always been a US g&L guy

My condolences for your loss also. This Rapture is simply a very well made bolt on bass with a Bartolini electronics package. It should not be difficult to get up and running to your liking. I think Raptures are great sleeper boutique Jazz style basses, especially the fives.

It looks like it just needs a setup. Maybe some cleaning in the electronics. When you get it set up, make sure the strings are wound on correctly. They currently are not.

I saw that too. I am debating either soaking these strings in alcohol and correctly reusing them or just getting new ones. Pretty sure they used a specific string on them

No. Nothing specific about the strings. Use the strings you like. Get new ones.

Be careful on that truss rod. Pedulla truss rods require a special tool and cautious handling. The truss rod design has been the source of much discussion on Talkbass and many have run into problems.

MV Pedulla retired last year. Shame, they did make some great high end basses for decades. And were used by many top notch artists.

Oh how I miss my Rapture. Clean the pots (DeOxit D5 from Guitar Center, and only use a TINY spray. Wipe off any overspray with a paper towel) and the jack. It uses a barrel jack and those can have issues and need to be replaced. I bought my last jack off of Amaxon for $15. Switchcraft, stereo since it has a 9V.

Great bass, I would hang on to it. Especially if it has a sentimental history. Sorry to hear your cousin passed on.

Yeah I'll never sell it. Not super sentimental person but I think this bass is special and I'll play it for sure

Shoot that DeOxit into the apertures at the back of the pot.
This guy gets a little crazy with it but you'll get the idea.

That is a great J bass.
New strings and input jack, maybe a bit
of potentiometer cleaner and enjoy.
