Pedulla Interceptor question

Looking for advice on a 1984 Pedulla Interceptor I'm looking at. Very nice condition, with preamp replaced by MIke Pedulla a few years back. Hard to find good info on these except that they seem to be fairly rare and some close cousin to the MVP.

Has original case, and well cared for. What would be a fair selling price for this? One sold on TB in 2011 for $1000. Is that still about right?

Also, the little red light doesn't work. What is that for?

Thanks Baird6869. That's the price I was thinking, assuming as is in order when I check it, probably today. Your thought on the light. If I get it I will inquire from Mike Pedulla, who installed new preamp. I was thinking it indicated active/passive. I'm told there's a switch for it.

Weird, I've been a Pedulla fan since ~1977, and I worked for a Pedulla dealer in 1985-86, and yet I've never even heard of an "Interceptor" model! How is that different from an MVP?

From what I learned, the Interceptor was made between 84 and around 88. Not sure what the difference, except they were almost all an oil finish, in maple and walnut. This one has INT imprinted with the serial on the back of the headstock and Christine at Pedulla confirmed that it is an Interceptor. THe owner said it was an MPV and that INT stood for Internation sale (not true). So there you go, they are very similar.

The owner got it appraised at a local CG and they told him $1200 to $1400, Based on my research so far, that's on the high side, more in line with the MVP, which have different finishes. But these are so rare I expect it's worth what someone will pay.

Thanks for all the opinions so far. Can't determine much difference with the MVP except for the finish and wood (walnut-maple).I"m hearing here that $1200 is a fair price, especially in very good condition with updated preamp. Any others before I check it out?

I'd pass on other opinions and just go check it out for yourself. You'll get way to many varied responses that won't help. At that price point, you have options..but not many like this.

I owned a trashed Interceptor I picked up at Daddy's for $450 a little over a decade ago. It had deep grooves in the wood, a dead bridge pickup, and an extra hole in the headstock so a Hipshot would clear the other tuning pegs.

I bought a new pickup and E string tuner and ended up trading it on at GC towards a different bass. I went back a couple of weeks later and it was hanging on the wall with a $2k price tag... a few weeks after that I went in and it was gone. I'm not sure if they sold it for that much, though.

It was a nice bass... the red light on mine worked, I forgot what it did, but I think it was a booster?

I actually e-mailed the seller of the one you are looking at a few hours after he posted it (insomniac) and he never got back to me... if he does, I will tell him I'm not interested. Last thing I need is another bass, or to drive the price up for someone else who wants it!

I have one of these basses ; in my opinion it’s the best fretted bass Pedulla made . The walnut sounds bigger and more articulate than the typical maple body . It’s a great and rare bass ! I added a Glockenklang preamp and active Seymour Duncan Pickups (the ones with 3 switches). It’s a tone monster !
Enjoy
