Pedulla Rapture Refinish

I just wrapped up a refinish project for a friend and I wanted to post some pics of the project.

The bass is a 1990's 5 string Pedulla Rapture that was finished in a metallic purple. This bass has seen pretty heavy use over the 14 years my fried has owned it. This bass wasn't used much over the last 5 years and he wanted to give the bass a new life and thought that stripping the paint and doing a natural finish would be the way to go.

He was right!

The body looks to be maple, and a nice piece too. My friend is VERY pleased with the end result of this project. I also did a restring and set up as well. This bass is like new and plays great.

Yeah, I know. We decided to leave the headstock as is because of the Pedulla logo.

I wouldn't worry about the logo. It would look so much better with the natural wood headstock as well. It looks great aside from that.

Frankly, I think it looked better in the 'before' pics, but that's just me.

Pedulla is still around, right? I'm thinking if your friend was to send them pics and serial number of the bass he could get a new logo sticker to put on the refinished headstock...?

Oh wow! To my eyes, that looks orders of magnitude better after than it did before. In its before state I don't think I would have given it a second look, but in the after state, it gives me GAS pains! I too would look into finishing the job up with addressing the headstock. That is a great piece of maple underneath, and goes to show you that with quality builders it doesn't matter what kind of finish is going over top of it, the wood chosen is still lovely. Overall, very, very nice job - well done!

so the owner of this bass came back and we decided to strip the headstock. it looks MUCH better now. here are the pics.

It doesn't look bad, but to me doing any work like this on a pedulla is like trying to improve the Mona Lisa with a watercolor set. That guy is a genius & his work (including paint) is exceptional.
