'Peg Ultra buttons

I rarely use the buttons. Most of the Ampegs I have owned do have a mid-selector switch that I do utilize

Please enlighten me

Never found a use for either Ultra switch.
I hardly use much EQ with an SVT or SVP either.

If I want to play a Poison song, I'll hit the Ultra Hi, otherwise I never use them.

But, honestly, I think a lot of it has to do with more modern speakers at work. Way back when the SVT was created, it took two fridges loaded with speakers that (although sounding great) really didn't perform all that well volume wise.

These days, the EQ section if that head is more than plenty to get loads of beef and clarity out of a modern fridge or alternate cab.

I don't think I ever use either one on my SVT Classic head. I do use the ultra low on my PF 500 most of the time.

I've used both but I'm not sure how I want to vote since it changes depending on the band I'm with.

Ultra High helped me get through a gig with ultra dead strings.

Ultra Low - I'm not currently using it but I've gotten great results out of it. I think it sounds terrible on its own but it seems to sit in the mix well if the guitars are taking up a lot of the midrange.

People always slag it as too scooped but if you go start a thread about Alice in Chains you'll get a ton of people talking about how great Mike Starr's tone is, and when I looked at his amp it had the low pushed in with a label beside it that says "in" suggesting this isn't accidental.

Ultra Low almost all of the time. Honestly...I'm no fan of 500 Hz as I find it sounds too nasal, and so scooping that works well for me.
The subsequent boost of 40 Hz also works for me, along with a little manual "Bass" boost dialed up to 2 o'clock as well.
I select Mid "3" or 800 Hz to boost.
I dunno...I might be addicted to "scoop".

It works well for the stuff I do.
I don't play any loud and boisterous rock 'n roll anymore. Mostly country, western swing, old gospel and 60's 70's folk.

It also works well for the double bass.

Never used them on my SVT3-PRO. Didn't like what they did to the sound.

I should have mentioned my answer above pertains to my pf800. But also used it on my SVP Pre.

I've always gotten positive feedback and compliments about my tone from FOH using Ampeg amps. I keep the formula the same on pretty much any Ampeg I use (currently an SVT 7 Pro if I'm using my amp):

Ultra Hi - Off (never use it)
Ultra Lo - Always on
Bass - Noon
Mid - 2 or 3 o'clock
Mid Selector - Position 3, 800 Hz
High - 10 or 11 o'clock

Specific to the 7 Pro - compression at 10 or 11 o'clock, gain at 2 o'clock.
