People using my amp in a shared rehearsal place

+1. me and some friends and acquaintances had gear stolen by my old bands former guitarist. I don't leave gear at practice spaces anymore except maybe my rack, which weighs +100lbs. And even that is padlocked shut when I go
Interesting. The rehearsal places I frequent are full of supplied equipment for the bands use. I wouldn't dream of leaving anything I own in a shared space. I guess I learned a lesson after losing three basses.

I have never been exposed to a shared rehearsal space. Either I played in my or a bandmates basement etc or we rent time at a local studio. The studio thing may seem to be expensive but it's better than putting a new output transformer in your amp due to individual hooking to up wrong.
Years ago I saw a special kind of plug for the instrument inputs.
You put it in - and in that plug there is a small key so you can lock your amp.

I've been in the situation where people using my amp is a concern, and what I'd usually to is to strip any cables, including speaker cables, and take the power cord with me. I know that not all amps have removable power cords, but mine did, and as most people don't carry those with them, it was pretty effective. I would also cover it up and wheel it to face inwards at the wall. The fuse idea isn't bad, either. Nothing irks me so much as someone just helping themselves to my stuff.
Get longer cables, leave amp on floor. Saves the lifting at least. Other than that, see all of the above.

First I took out the fuse, but the crazy guy who used my amp put a short screw into the fuseholder
After that I replaced the xlr connector of the cabinet by a speakon socket knowing the guy won`t /can`t buy a speakon speaker cable-and took it with me after the rehearsal.
Meanwhile we`ve got a practice room on our own-and the equipment standing there is insured-that let`s me sleep much better!

Anyone who put a screw in my amp (in place of the fuse) to use it would get the crap kicked out of them; take your ampeg home, & go buy a peavey TNT from the 80's (for the jam space). Problem solved, LOL...

In the UK recording studios like mine often offer rehearsal facilities for bands at circa £25 for four hours, all included. heated, carpeted and with all the back line and PA gear you would ever want provided + easy live demo at very little extra charge.

Yup, we pay $25. an hour for our cool in the summer, warm in the winter, carpeted and sound insulated practice room. All the amps and drums are provided. Not bad gear either, Mesa cab's with either GB or Hartke heads.
Dude, just having your gear in the same room as others means that people will either sit on it, use it for a coffee table, or try to play it. If you make money with your gear and someone breaks it, either by accident or by screwing with it. that has an affect on your bottom line. Don't take the chance, get your stuff out of there when you can't control the situation.

No offense friend but I think you're a tiny bit bananas leaving that head there at all. The idea of having even a sh*tty amp of mine in a shared space gives me all kinds of willies – let alone a top of the line Ampeg with tubes in it for heavens sake. Who knows what other musicians might try and throw at it while you're not there? Not to mention that excellent fridge...
People are all the same. People only look after other people's property while they're accountable for it. Musician's are generally worse than regular people, especially when they see an opportunity to meddle with something they're not familiar with.
The only thing of mine that I let people use when I'm not watching is my toilet.

Yes and folks can abuse your toilet and its made of porcelain!
Really I am worrying about your cab too.
I sold a 4x15 Marshall cab the day after a guy played through it with an EBO. It never sounded the same.
Find a new place that you don't share or get some beater amp.
HUGE +1 to not leaving your gear in an (almost) public space. Don't want to move the big iron amp? Get a small class D head for practice, leave the SVT where it's safe, and for gigs. I'd never leave my gear to chance, too many scumbags in this world.
That seems like something that would make a person who can't be trusted start removing parts, like a full set of tubes.
Ok, let me get this straight. You're leaving the amp that many claim to be the greatest possible bass sound you could ever hope to achieve, well worth carrying around 300lbs of gear for and throwing your back out every night.
And then people are actually playing it, Hell if I was at your space, I'd fire that mother up too and rock it ALL NIGHT LONG and then put it up wet!! ;-)
