Perfection?

He also brought up the concept that outer space is perfectly silent due to the lack of air. However, upon further research, I believe this is false because there are particles, although few and far between, that can oscillate and produce sound.

No, he's right about this. Sound only works if the gas particles are close enough to each other to affect each other's motion.
 
I agree that as the margin of error approaches +/-0, you approach perfection in a sense that there is no room for flaw. However, I am not certain this is possible...

Is there a difference between "accuracy" and "perfection?"

Specs are rarely absolute or exact (since the measurements are only as good as the devices used for measuring), usually a given range. I.e. +/- .001". From a functional standpoint mechanical perfection would usually be all interacting parts at the center of the tolerance range. If one part is at the high end of the spec and it's interacting mate at the low end, mechanical perfection per the design will generally not be achieved. YMMV

I didn't think it was. To answer your question, yes, there is a difference between accuracy and perfection. I was talking about accuracy and that the more accurate something is, the closer it comes to perfection. That's still not perfection, though. I typed before I really thought about it.

Maybe perfection only exists in geometry.

If I believed in an imperfect "god", you could not prove me wrong. Therefore, while this my be your opinion, your point is invalid, because beliefs, what you hold to be true, are not always irrefutably factual. No disrespect to your belief, but I disagree.

Now that Im thinking about it, can something have perfect disexistance? I mean, if something does not exist at a place in a time specified, is its disexistance under these stipulations perfect?

Hey, this is OT - I only take it so seriously, I waasn't trying to bust your chops. Honestly. My thoughts came from being a toolmaker from about age 18-29. You have a tolerance as stated on a blueprint, there is an acceptable limit of deviation. Now imagine a rod that goes in say a round bearing(hole). IF the guy making the rod takes it to the upper/big limit of the tolerance, and the guy making the hole takes it to the lowest/smallest size within tolerance, things might not be that perfect. That particular mating of parts may not stand the test of time very well because, well, they are not THAT perfect for the situation. But people doing the work need some measure of how accurate or "paranoid/neurotic" they need to be while doing the work.

Sometimes people ruin perfection imo by trying to make things "perfect". Cue the Beatles: LEt it be, let be, let it be, oh let it be......

But it is nice when people strive for basic, centered perfection. Then it works great for all parts and parties concerned.
