Period Correct Double Bass

The Genssler BOMs are a great gut alternative. I prefer them and when I first played them for my teacher she said “you went back to gut”. They’re better than any gut strings I’ve played.

Garrett, is this (better than any guts) true for bowing as well. I have a 5/8th bass coming out of full restoration this fall that I was planning for guts... but.... let me know what you think when you have time.

I only play arco. They feel different than guts. They are softer and the G and D strings are surprisingly large. But, they sound great in thumb on the D and A strings in a way that no gut strings I’ve played do. You have to get use to them, but once you do it’s hard to go back.
