Double Bass Permanents for Jazz?

So I'm a 95% classical player who is absolutely in love with Permanents. However, I'm starting to play more jazz, and I've been wondering how they sound for jazz. Does anybody have any experience playing jazz on Permanents?

If they tend to not sound so good, I'll just drop some cash on the Evah's.

I used the e on a bass I had set up for orchestral playing a few years ago, and it had a little purr. I used it with a crossover group that played jazz in a chamber orchestra setting, and I needed to walk and solo and all that fun stuff. I think they would work great if the rest of the set is anything like the e.

Yes, the Permanents are a great hybrid string.
Adrian Mueller; Pirastro's Technical Manager, once told me the Permanents were designed for something like 80% arco / 20% pizz use or so.

I played permanents for a few years strictly jazz and think about going back to them now and again. Good string.

For what you're describing, I wouldn't switch if you're happy arco.

I'm a professional orchestra musician and jazz musician. I actually use Permanents on my jazz bass. I have used permanents in the orchestra and played next to others who use them and they sound fine. If you like the permanents on your bass for the orchestra then there is no reason to change them for jazz playing.
I do not have first hand experience with the Evah's, but my stand partner used them briefly. They sounded great, especially the pizz sound, but he felt they didn't give him enough nuanced control or variation, so he went back to the Belcantos. Hope that helps.

Just put Thomastik W's on E&A and Permanent D&G. Looking for that perfect arco/pizz blend. After these strings settle in I'll let y'all know where we stand.

The comination of the Thomastik W's on the E&A and the Permanents on the D&G are working beyond expectations. I have a 150 year old Dutch flatback and she's really responding with this blend of strings. Great arco sound; rich and responsive. Pizz is percussive but round and good sustain. It also increased volume noticeably. Everybody's happy!
