Big fan of old school hiphop - I love the crate-digging sampling vibe of yesteryear...
Pete Rock's production is a big fave, and I always wondered about some of the bass guitar--certainly felt like a bassist playing along with the sampled grooves, but hard to tell after things get all cut up. Apparently Pete played a lot of that bass himself. He has Mono Neon on his latest which is awesome, but man, Pete is a deep bassist! His ideas are killer.
