PF-210he vs. 210AV

I'm trying to decide what 2x10 (or two) I want for my PF-500. Has anyone tried both or compared these two cabs? I know the portaflex cab is higher wattage, but tone-wise are they similar (especially with the PF-210 Tweeter turned off)? I'm guessing the 210AV has less low end. I know I should play through them when I get a chance, but if anyone has any info or just opinions on these cabs I'd like to hear it. Thanks!

I'm very impressed with the little SVT210. I posted a few sound clips with the PF500 in the PF500/300 thread. I also used it with the streamliner 900 (just briefly, I just got both of them). I was concerned about the 200 watt limit with the high power amps but it really performs admirably considering the 25lb weight. The weight was the deciding factor between going with the svt or the pf cab.

I have a feeling the pf cab will handle more power and give more low end but you'll have to carry 15 more pounds with one handle on top.

FYI I just got back from a Francine Reed concert and I've had a good bit of wine so that's the best I could do under the circumstances.

Thanks for the input, guys. I'm leaning towards the PF-210 I think just because there's less of a chance I'll need a second cab right away.

I'd probably agree. Love the 210av cabs, but I think you'd be better off with the PF210 as a standalone.

If you routinely hit the low B, then I would agree that the Portaflex cabs are probably the better way to go. But for straight ahead rock on a 4-string, I still really dig the SVT-210AV's. I will admit that the Micro-VR isn't going to be loud enough for all of my gigs, but it sure does great at practice and smaller gigs, and two of the 210AV's with a more powerful head do quite well. But again, those Portaflex cabs are great (I slightly prefer the 1x15, but both are nice), and they will certainly cover a low B with more authority.

I do play a 5-string (with the lowest note being C) and use the lower notes fairly often. I like the looks, concept, and light weight of the 210AV, but I'm pretty sure I would need to buy two of them right off the bat to get the proper volume for band practice. I can pump the full 300 watts (or so?) at 8ohms from my PF-500 into the PF-210 without worrying about it (specs say it handles 450W) and that should be plenty loud for my purposes. May I ask why you prefer the PF-115, Tom? Thanks again for everyone's helpful responses.

FWIW, the 210AV with the MicroVR head does sound remarkably close to a vintage SVT-810. I had a chance to compare one against a '78 SVT rig and to me ears - the only difference was that one was "bigger".

May I ask why you prefer the PF-115, Tom?

There's not a huge difference, but I thought it spoke a little more to me through the mids.

A pair of 210AVs get pretty darn loud when I threw some power into them (I used them with a fairly cranked GK500). I have never heard them ever distort. It's a different tone than any other box I have used though. Nasily, punchy, barky boxes and I really like them. No low bass bloom, but they extend down to a drop D with no problem. The 10" in them doesn't extend nearly as high in frequency as many other drivers, so it's more than just not having a tweeter.

I want to switch to 2 210s, I currently use a svt 410hlf with a terror bass 500. I like the sound of the 410 he. Do the pf210he or 210av sound more similar?

Also would the terror bass 500 blow the 210av? I currently turn my volume to about 8oclock. I turn the bass all the way Down with the hlf and up to 2 o clock with the he.
