I have a few different options for home practice rigs and when time allows I like to putz around and cycle through various heads (Class D, 200-500w) and cabs (mainly Bag End sealed 10", S12-D and PJ C2) as the mood strikes. Recently called to help start a funk/blues-styled side project I decided to pull out my old FrankenP (GHS Pressurewounds and Fralin overwound pickup) and get back to shedding some tunes.
I just came here to share that the PJ Bass Cub Pro consistently keeps me honest more than any amps I've owned. The sound is clear and unadulterated- there's no hiding sloppy technique. At all. I get why some people say PJ gear can be sterile or clinical sounding but it seems to me as though what I'm hearing through this amp is the closest to what my fingers are doing with the strings. Every nuance and with an immediate attack. No wool, no bloom, no hype whatsoever. I'd be near terrified to play upright through it!
Fellow owners, what say you? Comments, questions all are welcome. Thanks for reading.
