hi and welcome to talkbass!
I had the S-77. it's small and affordable, but not light. it's a hefty tiny box. in fact, it weighted the same as my 'big rig' (a head and a 112 neo cab).
to me it sounded like a conventional 100W combo with a 12" ceramic speaker volume-wise. I used it maxed out and it was enough to use with a quiet drummer (brushes), but didn't have any volume to spare.
the other downside to S-77 is the inability to use an additional cabinet. my advice would be stretching budget to fit a BG400/BG450 instead if you can, it would be a safer bet, better in the long run.[/UOTE]
I've bought the Session 77 already and like the tone and I can handle the 30 pounds but wouldn't want to if th any heavier. If we stick to our plan of playing at a reasonable sound level it should be perfect for my needs. I'm playing a Nash bass into it and the combination is great as is. I really love the amp but am concerned that the volume may be an issue. I have a DI box for large events.
Is there something in the 30lb weight class that's more powerful and sounds as good under 500.00?
Thanks!
