Does anyone know what effect Phil Lesh is using at the end of Estimated Prophet? Sounds like a filter of some sort, as he is getting those vowelly oinky sounds, but subtle...

I don't think Phil uses anything on Estimated. Jerry for sure is using his Mu-Tron iii envelope filter. Live, Phil used to do ridiculous slides up and down for Estimated, but have never detected any effects on his part.

I've listened to live and studio and have yet to hear a hint of effect for Phil. I did a search on Phil's effects, and the consensus is that he doesn't use any effects except possibly compression. Everyone seems mystified at his BP-200 on top of his rig and what he uses it for. I did read where Big Brown had lowpass and bandpass filters built into the electronics, and he had a MIDI system for Space in the 80s-90s, but didn't employ it very much, perhaps similar to his having the capability with Big Brown and the Wall of Sound to use a separate channel for each string, but that he didn't use it very often.

I couldn't find the version with the effect that I am questioning... I thought I heard an envelope or auto-wah on a version, but after some of these replies I think I may have been off base. C'est la vie. :p
