Not a ton of recordings from Phil but he’s a beast in Stark Reality. Love the tone and the slides and playfulness in general.
anyone else listen to SR much? The Hoagy Carmichael tunes are fun AF
John Abercrombie? I was a big fan of his ECM era. This band was around Boston early 70’s. Abercrombie is a great guitar player and teaches at Berklee now. Not a ton of info on Morrison - other than some stints with Freddy Cole, T Bone Walker, Dizzy Gillespie. I think he has some gospel recordings but nothing as wild and innovative as the Stark Reality recordings.
The SR / Hoagy Carmichael album was re-released on Stones Throw records by Peanutbutter Wolf - as it makes sense that it was heavily sampled by hip hop artists (the drums are epic). I got a copy of it years ago and it’s one of my go-to records to put on when there’s company over.
he just seems like a mammoth player and I wish I could get my hands on more work of his
