I have a 20th anniversary squier P bass that is baltic blue with white pick guard. well that white pick guard looks hideous and i would like a darker color, maybe black or even a dark red. could i grab one of the SX P bass pick guards and have it fit my squier or would it be better to grab one from fender?

Pick guard replacement for squier P

An SX guard didn't fit my Squier P body, not just not matching the screw holes, but not quite covering the cavity.
I didn't buy the body new, not sure which Squier it was. I didn't try it yet, but eyeballing makes it seem a normal Fender P won't fit either.
I know this isn't giving a good answer, but my advice would be to be cautious if you want it to be a drop-on fit.

trace out your pickguard on a big sheet of paper and send it to WD music. They'll let you know what will fit.
that sounds like an idea.
i just dont want to get anything special order because.
1 i dont have a lot of money
2 i dont see the point of custom stuff for a bass that cost me 100 bucks.

I like the white PG as cheap as it is.
Why? It's a prochronism.
And it just tweaks the noses of those who eschew Affinities. Stay with it for the sake of pouring salt into their wounds.
Pshaw! Affinities are nice basses, esp. for the money. They get the job done, and are usually light and easy to play (advantage of the agathis body).
+1 on the Squier's being good basses for the money.
I bought a white pearloid pickguard from choppersmusic on ebay that was advertised to fit a Fender p bass. It fit great on my Squier Affinity P. I did however buy a tort pickguard off of a MIA p bass and I will have to mod it to fit the tabs the screws go through on the pickup. The guard shape and fit are great but the tabs on my pickup are a little lager than the pickguard was cut out for.
So I guess I'm saying in a long and drawn out way, buy one for a Fender...

I tried one for a Fender and it wouldn't cover my trench - so I know it didn't work for me. I also tried the Planet Waves version - nope!
Paint the pickguard you have. I've done that to several pickguards and it came out great. Just scuff it up enough to take the shine off of it with sandpaper and spray paint it.
