Pick playing killing stage presence?!

The pick you are using is too thick, you need extra energy from your hand to get it past the strings and this is what is making you tired.

I have my doubts about this. A thin pick requires more strength to get a note, so the hand tires faster.

Besides, if you technique is good, you should not tire quickly.

I've always played bass with a pick (heavy for rock where I need a sharper attack & felts for more "fingerstyle" sounds).

I've snapped a few of the felt picks by digging in too hard, but it's a fair compromise for me. I'm just more comfortable with a pick & they get me close to the sound I want on those occassions.

FWIW, I've had several guys try to talk me out of using a pick altogether. They've tried telling me my pick preference is a holdover from being a guitar player for 30+ years.

Strange thing is, I don't use a pick when I play guitar. I prefer the dynamics of using my fingers...and the sound is considerably more unique.

Bottom line...do what you're comfortable with.

I think this is the key. Whatever style/size pick you use is less important than how relaxed your hand is.
