Pick technique

I read about Steve Swallow using a metal pick and could not understand how he can do it.

Anyway, I will stick to my .88mm nylon dunlops with tip facing towards the bridge and see how it goes.

I never considered using a pick until recently, having developed some carpel tunnel in the right hand, and it opened up a new world of tonal and rhythmical possibilities. More colors on the pallet is a good thing.

The best advice I've ever been given came from one of Bobby Vega's videos. I paraphrase; use what works for you, not what is trendy.

When I need some more 'pop' for a song, or I feel the foh guys are not letting me get through, I'll use a pick and dial in some highs.

I actually dislike using fingertips as they sound hollow to me - I'm old school enuff to use an index finger as 'the hook-type' playing or my thumb for a deeper thumpier sound.

Ukulele felt picks are also very good.

Then again a modified Travis picking style works good for me too.

I only play with a pick and always have. I only play with the backside and always have!

Try a Dunlop nylon 1 mm (the black one) it sounds really nice and thick and round.

I thought I was the only weirdo doing this!
