Pick up poles fell into pick up cover?

Hello, fellow TB'ers.

I'm hoping someone here can help me, since I'm not completely certain what the issue is here due to my limited knowledge.

I just received a new SX bass in the mail today (they're great, yada yada, you've heard it all before) and found that the bridge pick up poles seem to have fallen into the pick up cover. As you can see in the image, the poles seem slightly offset and if I shake the bass I can hear the internals of the pick up knock around a bit.

I don't know exactly how this could have happened. I know SX quality control isn't the best so I'm not upset and suspect it to be that or a shipping damage.

What's confusing is the bridge pickup still works. It actually sounds quite alright, but I don't have it's standard, properly configured sound to judge it off of.

My question is what exactly should I do here? Would the fix be as simple as removing the pick up cover and repositioning the poles or is there potentially more to this? Again, I've never encountered this and am very much lost as how to approach the problem. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The pickup cover is raised higher than the foam can push the pickup, so the coil itself fell out of the cover. A thicker strip of foam will solve the problem.

+1 Had this happen several times. Get some thicker foam to go under the pickup

Also, it looks like the cover is binding in the route. You may need to sand the edges of the route until the cover moves freely up and down on the screws

Thanks for your help everyone . Once I throw some flats on this bass I'll pull up the pick up cover while the stings are off and get this set straight.

Is there any type of foam that's recommended for use? For sound or fire safety issues?

i usually use what comes in the box my pickups came in. obviously you can't but maybe ask at your local guitar shop if they have any spare ?

I have two SX basses and am a fan, but yeah, fit and finish are the shortcoming. One of my jazz pickup covers was jammed into a too-small route. I have a Quarter Pounder replacement on the way, and I'll have to hit the route with a Dremel to create some clearance.

While we're on the subject, I replaced my SX P pickup with a Fender '62 P Bass pickup. That's not a cheap pickup, but I am very happy with the result -- richer mids and more overall presence. (And the block of foam was plenty tall, too!)
