Double Bass "pick up the world"

There were some threads and posts a while back. I could be all wet, but I seem to recall issues w/ it being a bit fragile, and even worse microphonic (picks up everything [no pun intended], such as unwanted vibrations from the instrument, handling noise, peripheral noise).

Here is one thread. I found it on the Newbie page.

You might could try searching on the abbreviation "PUTW" too maybe.

I'm pretty sure they're using the MSI piezo films. They don't seem to have any shielding over the piezo element, so I don't know how they avoid nasty hum - all my piezo experiments have confirmed the need for everything to be wrapped in foil.
I use the MSI films in my home-made pickups - Link Removed On my EUB they sound amazingly good - great tone balance and dead silent operation; a friend who uses one on his URB prefers it to his Underwood; I've successfully tried them on fiddle & cello. I sent one to Francois and he found it too boomy, so I guess it depends on the instrument, the setup and the type of sound you want.

PUTW make a neat little preamp for $40 that looks ideal for onbaord use if you don't need EQ.
