Hello Chaps / Chapesses 
New to this forum, else I wouldn't be posting here, but I'm here because, as in the title, about 4-5 weeks ago I decided I was going to learn bass guitar again and ordered one! I'm very pleased with it and I've arrived here to take all the advice / instruction I can get!
My story in brief: I used to play in my school band when I was about 12 and it's been nagging me ever since I changed schools and had to give it up when I was about 14 or 15. I always wanted a Fender Jazz Bass V but I had to stop playing just as I was getting round to persuading my parents to buy me a guitar of my own (though it would never have been a Fender!).
So I left it for a bit - well - a long time really - and then a couple of months ago, the local vicar, who I'm friends with outside of church, says to me that he's looking for a new bassist for the church band and asked whether I knew anyone who played. I'm really a classical organist / pianist / singer by training, so he was a bit surprised when I admitted that I used to play in a folk/rock band!
The rest as they say, is history. I've barely gone a day without playing since the instrument arrived and I'm really enjoying getting stuck in and learning. I plan to take the same approach here - I've already been reading plenty and I figured it was time to join in.
In the end, I didn't buy a Fender, since I wasn't sure whether I'd be able to do it / stick with it and it would have been a lot of money to waste if it didn't work out. Instead, I am now the proud owner of a shiny new Squier VM 5-string... well - it had to be, after 22 years of waiting, didn't it!
