Gotta be tort, but the real importance is in the covers. The pickup cover will probably get in your way, but that bass is begging for a bridge cover.

Gold. Free shielding (and grounding when it comes time to wire it up--fewer, less tangled wires). But can ya get it without the crummy fingerrest holes? I bought one somewhere that has a red stripe (red middle lamination) that matches the red vulcanized fiber spacers I had to install to side-shim the neck (plus I got the aluminum sheet that goes under the '62 RI pickguard; if you don't get gold get one of those). Then (why not?) I made red cables. Invent a scheme of your own. If you like hot pink, get a hot pink middle lam, then get those hot pink coated strings. It's fun to detail a bass.

There are few colors that tort looks good, and white is one of those colors. White on tort is one of my favorite color combos, right next to black on black.

I voted carroty orange. Only 'cause I think you should keep the tort 'guard, but swap the p'up covers for an aged cream colour or something. I've got the RW neck, but here's an idea of what it looks like (not the greatest image, but it gets the idea across!)
