pickguard poll

Ok people, help me choose my pickguard! The guitar is a "classic series" P-Bass, honey blonde, MIM. I've narrowed it down to blue or red tortoise, so I ordered both and will return whichever I don't choose.

Here's blue:

I like the red in as it seems to mix better with the guitar in my oppinion. The blue looks a bit harsh by comparrison.

here's the brown tortoise shell the guy who I bought it from had put on it, as well as the gold anodized pickguard that it originally had.

Personally I'm leaning towards red tortoise shell, but what do you guys think?

Brown is nice too mind you, as its closer to the base colour, which i prefer.

They both look good in their own way. What do you prefer in general, modern (blue) or classic?

right now I just have a black strap, although I'm not particularly attached to it, so that could change

The brown has flecks of yellow that come close to the color of the guitar, but for some reason I just don't like it. It just looks "dingy" and old to me. The red tort has some life in it. I thought the blue might be more unconventional, and it certainly has some zip to it. The red tort is probably more "classy" though

I would personally go for the red. One thought though.. if you are gigging someplace regularly, go put it up on stage and turn on the lights, including the color ones. See what looks best.

If you aren't gigging at a regular place, put velcro on the back of both fretboards, take it to the local community college and conduct a poll there as an excuse to meet the chicks.

Go with a wood pickquard..my bass had that ugly gold pickquard at first too...

I voted red tort, but that was before I saw the brown......
Both the gold and brown look great to me.................
Although black pickguards always sound better on a P bass.

Thank you! I actually made it. Me and my friend picked up a cheap piece of thinnly cut (a tad thicker then most pick guards) wood, traced out the pick guard, cut it, drilled the holes, sanded it, stained it (2-3 coats) and cleared it (2 coats I believe). Pretty cheap to make, has been on for about 2 years now and shows no wear. I can find out the type of wood tonight and let you know if you are intrested.

That being said, wood pickguards are sexy! Maybe some nice figured koa, or walnut, or flamed maple, or...
