Picking hand index finger hurts from holding a pick

Okay, so a while ago I asked how to play fast with a pick. Thanks to GKon, who told me to hold it like a guitar player, I now am super fast(relatively, haha). But my index finger joints hurt after a couple minutes of playing no matter how loose I hold the pick. I have watched a ton of guitar tutorials and my way of holding it seems to be absolutely right. Any help is deeply appreciated.

Me again :)

Yes, you're likely picking quite hard. No need to.
Also, what thickness pick are you using?

Finally, keep in mind that this is a new technique for you and you are using a pick in a new way, so it may take some
time to adjust/strengthen etc. the new parts of your hand that you are using. Don't over do it. give it some time.

Hi, GKon. Being an ultimate Duff McKagan fanboy, just like him, I use yellow tortex picks ( 0.73 mm ). Fandom aside, I really think .73 is the most comfortable thickness and has a great sharp tone. Once again, thanks for your help. :)

Those picks are the best for bass IMO. And especially if you're playing a lot of GN'R and other hard rock, you're probably (like I said before) playing pretty hard. As GKon said, your muscles need to strengthen. But for now I would suggest turning the volume up and you'll (probably) naturally play a little softer.

Thanks for helping @devinp17. Yeah you are right, I probably hit too hard. That's one of my weaknesses. Can't play softly, gotta hammer the hell out of my strings. I should get over it.
