Picks

The thickest pick that I have is a Wegen 7mm.

The majority of my playing is fingerstyle but when I use a pick, I like the Jim Dunlop jazz III. View attachment 3824502View attachment 3824502

I loved those pics so much when I played guitar. They weren't awesome for strumming but for riffs and soloing they were the best.

I've found that they're awesome for bass if you want to add a little bit of thumb into your picking to soften the attack a little bit.

I don't always use a pick to play bass, but when I do....

I've tried a bunch of picks for bass and so far I like Dunlop Jazztone 207's the best, the tone and attack work well for me.

Anyone have a favorite pick?

I used to play pickstyle in my youth, since I was punk and all that lol. I don't play with picks anymore for the most part, but last year a friend gave me a set of handmade rosewood picks (yes, picks made of wood) and I gotta say I love love, LOVE the tone you get with a wooden pick, warmer, rounder, and certainly different. Bad thing though, they wear down quite quickly.

Of all the exotic materials out there, wood is definitely my favorite.

I also really like leather. The tone you get from that is like fingers, pick, and a bridge mute all had a freaky drug binge and made a love child.

I have 8 words for you: Jim Dunlop Prime Tone Sculpted Plectrum Small Tri.

Right material - not clacky, responds when pressure applied, great articulation.

Tips are sculpted (think well broken-in) and smooth; no grating on bass string windings.

Small Tri shape means there are 3 tips the same, instead of one that's too long and 2 others that are too short.

They're not cheap, but they sound FANTASTIC. Besides, is $10 for 3 worth spending for YOUR tone? :-)
