pickup replacement options for squier bronco?

squier bronco.
just acquired one recently and love the little bass ,
but the pickup sounds thin . really thin . and could be much
quieter .

usually, i'm not one to mess with pickups .... but i think for
this instrument , it's called for.

what will fit the existing pickguard hole ? i'd prefer not to
cut it . from what i've read , the stock pickup is actually
a regular 6-pole guitar pickup? this bass needs a proper pickup, shielding tape , a proper switchcraft output jack.

the barts and emgs look
way too big for the cutout.....

This will accomodate any "strat" shape pickup. Pull the cover off your pickup once it's out, and note the SIX pole pieces. I have a DiMarzio Pro-Trak in mine and am quite happy with it. It's a "rail" type of pole arrangement so string spacing doesn't affect it.

If you want to go cheap, the EMG Select Strat Pickup is only $20 at stewmac.com. It's a dual rail design, but not as overwound as a hot rail. With 500K pots (or 1 Meg if you want to hear it wide open), it will probably sound similar to the existing pickup, but with no string drop outs and no hum. Heavier gauge strings will improve output, also. Good luck.
