Pickup wiring

First off...Mods, if this needs to be moved then please do.

Ok, I am putting new pickups in a les paul. The pickups have two conductors, a white wire and a bare one. I'm taking the lazy way an just cutting and splicing. Do I use both or just the white one?

bare is your ground or neutral side
white is the signal or positive side
bare goes to the pot body, or wherever you're grounding to
white goes to the volume pot terminal
