Pickups match for Audere Preamp

My bridge is 17mm, which is what I think SX was using on their five string 62 Jazz basses at the time. But I kind of wish I went with a 17.5 just so it better matched my Stingrays and my L-2500. But, really, it's not a major difference and I can't say I notice it once I've been playing this parts Jazz for a few minutes.

But the sound, wow. The pickups have a great vintage tone and the Audere preamp is quite transparent so you really get to hear the pickups. This parts bass looks pretty ugly, but it sounds wonderful. I really like these pickups.

Did you put them in yourself? Did you have to order custom spacing?

Didn't order custom spacing and I didn't install them myself. I had a local luthier (Loudo Guitars) do all the mods - and I did a lot on this bass. The only original parts from the bass are the unloaded body wood and the neck plate. Literally everything else got replaced. He even cut a side jack to accommodate the preamp (I used all four holes for knobs).

Did your luthier order the pickups for the bass? Or you did? I have seen some basses that have weird pole alignment and that drives my OCD crazy. Yours look like the poles align pretty good. When you order from Nordstrand through the regular page, there is no drop-down to pick string spacing. These 5 stringers can go from 16.5 (my GWB35) up to 19mm (Squire P bass that I used to have, and probably my Dingwall Combustion) Maybe even more variation.

My 6 string Portamento is 14.5 and I could live with a 5 string with a very narrow neck and get on fine with it. Some folks are very picky about string spacing, but I play so badly that when I switch, it doesn't help or hurt me. :)
