was thinking about sadowsky single coils, but I do not think they are drop in fit. Is there anyone with a j-retro in there jazz with after market pickups. I was thinking maybe Lollars. I plan to get the j-retro first and then if needed the pickups next. I do not want a pickup to hot as I feel the preamp with be boost enough. I was something that falls between modern and classic tone. Thanks for any help......

I have the J-Retro preamp on my Lakland Jeffery Osborne Jazz bass. The original p/u's were the Fralin's. That combo sounded great. Then out of curiosity, I loaded the Joe Barden p/u's. The bass is now smokin'. The Barden's are very clean and quiet. The p/u's are very responsive, articulate and sounds very even. When I need that Marcus, Jaco, P-bass, J-bass or whatever tone I need, the J-Retro will allow me to dial in. I'm very pleased with this setup.
