Piezo String Recommendations

Michael Kinal is building me one of his electro-acoustic Kompact 30" basses, this one a 5 string tuned E A D G C. The only pickup is under saddle piezo, with onboard preamp. Here's a stock shot of a 4 string model to give you an idea of what I'm talking about.

I'm looking for string recommendations please, that might fall broadly into 3 categories (or otherwise if you have a different idea ):

• suggest conventional double bass
• suggest contrabass classical guitar
• conventional electric bass

If you want to avoid buying separate strings I've seen Fodera strings that have a high c in with the other 4. Ken Smith strings have that too. Being acoustic I wonder how tapewound strings would do. I think the string maker who has the most short scale options is either ghs or Labella. Good luck.

Thanks for the reply! Fodera and Smith don't have short or medium scale. I was hoping to hear from someone who could say about any particular string "been there, done that, doesn't work", so I could avoid some of the expense of buying different sets to experiment.

I caught myself after I sent that because I forget you have short scale needs. I was hung up on sets including a C string.. From what I've gathered though tapewound strings seem to work well with piezo systems and I'd imagine you need it to sound good plugged in vs only acoustically. I've got more experience with acoustic guitar than bass but I can point you to the 2 brands mentioned with confidence.

Thanks. He's a big fan of TI Acousticore and some others that tend to lean towards the double bass side of the spectrum, so that is useful confirmation of an area that I already knew a bit about. Although I am puzzled a bit because AFIK the Acousticores are only available in long scale.
I have ordered a 4 string set of Savarez plus single for the high C, I believe based on your suggestion. Thanks
For this Kinal bass, my mind's ear wants to lean toward a suggestion or hint of a contrabass classical guitar sound, so we'll see what happens with the Savarez.
I also have a 34" scale ABG which is where I will definitely consider using the TI Acousticores.
I phrased my initial question into 3 groups just to try to get some clarity in responses.
