Ah, a regional thang ... gotcha.It's a regional parlance. In my neck of the woods "sober" means not intoxicated at that particular time. "Straight" indicates that an individual abstains from drugs/booze in general. So if someone tells me that they found a stand-in guitarist for this weekends gig and he's "straight", I know that he won't show up drunk or stoned----sexual orientation is a non issue.
