Pig Pen as a Drummer

And, this guy had played with the likes of Neil Diamond...
I bet he's responsible for Diamond singing the way he does. :sour:

Also, I thought Pig Pen was a bassist:

I think the word for that is 'sober'

It's a regional parlance. In my neck of the woods "sober" means not intoxicated at that particular time. "Straight" indicates that an individual abstains from drugs/booze in general. So if someone tells me that they found a stand-in guitarist for this weekends gig and he's "straight", I know that he won't show up drunk or stoned----sexual orientation is a non issue.

Ah, a regional thang ... gotcha. Never heard it used in that context up and down either coast ... not sure what happens in the middle.

My percussionist gets pretty ripe sometimes. They other day, my guitarist said someone should invite him over for a shower. I said no thanks...last time he showered at my place it stunk like patchouli for a week. I'm not sure which is worse.
We have a harmonica player that sits in sometimes. I don't know if he ever showers. I try to block up the stage so he sets up on the other side. By my guitar player. Super nice guy and a hell of a player though.
