Pitch changing - does this exist?

Just wondering though-- how good would that be for your bass to keep switching tensions like that, and so suddenly?

I don't think a whole step change on one string is going to hurt anything.

What I want is to be able to shift the pitch on the fly by a preset amount. It would be nice if you could program several presets. For example, playing a 4 string tuned standard I want to be able to hit a button and switch to BEAD. Can any of the multi units do this? If so how is the sound?

OK-----here is my use of the Digitech Whammy. IT WORKS.....especially for what you want it for....on the fly.
All these songs are played on a 4 string bass tuned E-A-D-G with a Whammy in a Digitech BNX3.
