PJB Briefcase VS. Pignose B100V

It finished a few hours ago... And oddly enough, all of the heads currenly listed have BINs higher than the Combos!!!

And again, IMO & IME I would have to respectfully disagree... I, and others, do it fairly regularly. If I need more than that, there's always the PA...

Not sure about you, but in a rock/metal setting, playing with two guitar players with full stacks, a hard hitting drummer, I dont see how your 100 watts are gonna be herd what so-ever.

Also, i NEVER depend on gig sound people, or house PAs. Ive shown up with 1/2 my stack one to many times to see a 100 watt rouge PA set up, and just about had a sh*t fit.

IME, IMO, and what not....but thats life.

what Tom said... the briefcase is a GREAT practice amp. Not loud enough to use for a rock band. I have one and use it primarily for practice and small gigs. 100 tubes watts are alot different than 100 solid state watts...
bull. Watts are watts, clean power is clean, tubes only handle clipping well, whereas solid state will give a much sharper and unpleasant distortion

Then explain why my 400+ sounds louder than an SVT-4 Pro in mono bridge through the same cab in the collective opinions of myself, the owner of the 4-Pro, a guitarist, and a drummer. It seems to be a bit more than clipping, although that is one aspect of tubes vs ss.

100 watts is not enough for a rock band playing anymore then a garage gig.

expecialy if you want any clarity in your tone, be looking more into the 3-400 if not higher watt range.

:scowl: Sorry, bro. I do it all the time. Maybe it's just because I play with older guys-- we don't need to play at ear-splitting volumes to be heard throughout the club. But then, I'm only competing with two guitarists, a vocalist and a drummer.

Your initial post doesn't mention anything in the way of these qualifications... Merely says 'rock band playing anymore then a garage gig...' As far as the preceding sentence, I will argue that any day of the week... If you'll read my initial post, I mention playing with folks concerned more with the band sounding good...

On your second, more defined post... yeah, I'll buy that... It's just that I keep myself from playing in situations like that... Granted, the initial poster talks about playing with a guy using a full Marshall Stack... If he's cranking it, then no way... If, however, he's a cooperative bandmate interested in the whole unit sounding good, (and I realize that we're talking about a guit**ist here :D ), then it's easily done... I do it every day...

perhaps it's just ampeg showing everybody it sucks?
jk, but i hated ampeg since the beginning

it could be the preamp of the 400+ has a hotter sounding preamp? not everything is as simple as taking two amps that claim they're 400 watts and lining up the specs.
