Placing a cloth in my amp screen...

Hello everyone, as you'll see I'm a noob and can't defend myself perfectly in English, but I'll do my best for you to understand me...


I want to put a T-Shirt of my group hanging in front of my amp for live gigs (to promote our shirts and sell more, hehe) and I would like to know if that can have any bad effects in our sound, you know, I don't really know if a T-shirt has enough supression power to affect my music, hehe.

The bassist of The Mars Volta has a flag hanging from his amp, that's were I got the idea...

If it's thick and hanging over the whole speaker area, it's probably going to dampen some highs, but I highly doubt the effect would be significant. Try it and see if you hear any difference.

Another cool thing you could consider is to print the logo on some thin black fabric which is of the same size as the front of your bass cabinet, and attach it to the cab. I haven't ever seen anyone doing this, but I think that could look pretty cool. Then hang a t-shirt somewhere else where the audience can see it, on the back wall for instance. Or, why not just have a good-looking girl selling your merchandise stuff on a table next to the stage, entrance or wherever.

No, you're not going to lose anything with only a T-shirt hanging over your amp. A sweatshirt, maybe, but a T-shirt is too thin to make any real difference with bass.

Personally, I just bought an Iowa flag and I hang it over my amp at shows.

If you're truly worried, cut the t-shirt in half, splitting it down the middle so it reduces the amount of material by half. I doubt that 1 t-shirt will make a huge difference though.

Printing it on to a piece of flag-like material would look better, but be more expensive.
